Alan Gummerson has featured in many UK, European and North American exhibitions. An artist of tremendous depth and working across many mediums, his work has been collected around the world.

He taught at the Leeds College of Art from the mid 1950's to the mid 1980's, retiring in his 50's to pursue his unique artistic vision.

Working from his studio in the hills above Hebden Bridge, friends and artists gathered weekly in what became as much as a social as a practical experience, thereby forming an integral part of his artistic development. In such a setting, never having been particularly commercially minded, the act of creation for Gummerson was reward enough.

The life drawings available here represent a body of work stretching from his retirement to his death in 2020, varying in size, medium and technique.

One can see a distinct development in time within the work, moving into pure abstraction whilst displaying profound technical ability. A wonderful testament to an artistic life well lived, they give a great insight into a brilliant, creative mind.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
